Essex JumpCross Site Proving Popular

HORSE riders in Essex are enjoying the JumpCross site at Codham Park, Braintree, with sisters Sharon Peters and Jo Bareham delighted with the development of the sport in the region.

Set in more than 90 acres the JumpCross course runs through undulating terrain with water splashes and a variety of fences along the course.

Said Sharon: “JumpCross is going extremely well and we are delighted with the number of riders coming to both the training days and competitions.

“We also run a lot of show jumping competitions and are getting some riders from the world of show jumping also having a go at JumpCross which is brilliant.

“JumpCross is growing all the time and we are getting excellent feedback on the course and the sport as a whole.

“My sister Jo and myself are the main two people behind the running of the training and competitions.

“It’s a real family affair and we have lived at Codham Park for 15 years and have been improving the facilities every year. We already have Codham Park Equestrian which has two jumping arenas one 80m x 50m on a combi-ride surface and the other on the grass.

Robin Dunlop of JumpCross added: “JumpCross is a unique sport that gives rider’s the excitement of galloping cross-country without the anxiety of tackling fixed obstacles.

“Positioned to offer various challenges, the jumps can be up or downhill, over ditches or in and out of water and the sport requires proper cross-country terrain.

"We developed JumpCross because we wanted to take away the worry of riding over fixed fences and to get riders to concentrate on how they were riding the horse across the terrain.

“In JumpCross training sessions the fence height can be altered to suit the individual, helping riders progress whatever their ability.

“The sport also has a lot to offer the more experienced rider, it can be quite technical dependent on the individual course design and helps improve accuracy, rhythm, balance and overall synergy of horse and rider.”
